Works on any public page. You can leave off the https://, and yes, you can point it at a competitor.

What it looks at

Twenty-five checks, grouped the way they actually matter

Indexability

Whether Google is even allowed to list the page: noindex tags, X-Robots-Tag headers, a robots.txt that blocks everything, a missing canonical, and whether a sitemap exists. This group comes first because nothing else matters if the page can’t be indexed.

The search result itself

Title tag presence and length, meta description, H1 count and text, and whether heading levels run in order. These are what Google renders as your listing and what it reads to understand the topic.

Mobile & language

The viewport meta tag, without it phones render at desktop width, and the lang attribute that tells screen readers and search engines which language and region the page is written for.

Speed signals

Server response time, HTML document weight, redirect chain length, images embedded as base64, and images missing width and height (which causes the layout to jump as they load).

Structured data

Whether JSON-LD schema is present, whether it actually parses as valid JSON, and which types are declared. Malformed schema is silently ignored by Google, so a broken block is worse than none.

Security & sharing

HTTPS, whether http redirects to it, HSTS and other common security headers, plus the Open Graph tags that decide whether your link shows a picture and headline when shared on WhatsApp.

Being straight with you

What a ten-second tool can and can’t tell you

Every free audit tool on the internet has the same commercial incentive: find alarming-looking problems, present them urgently, capture your email. I would rather this one was useful and honest, so here is the boundary.

It can tell you whether your page is blocked from being indexed, whether your title and description are missing or truncated, whether your headings make sense, whether the page works on a phone, whether your schema is valid, whether your images have alt text, and whether your server is slow to respond. Those are objective, checkable facts, and in my experience most South African small-business sites fail at least three of them.

It cannot tell you whether your content is any good, whether you are targeting keywords anyone searches for, whether your competitors have more links than you, or what your Core Web Vitals look like for real visitors on real phones. Those need judgement, tools with historical data, and someone actually looking at your market.

A perfect score here does not mean you will rank. It means nothing technical is standing in the way.

That distinction matters. Technical SEO is a hygiene factor, getting it wrong will hold you back, but getting it right is table stakes rather than an advantage. What actually moves a local business up the rankings is reviews, content depth and being genuinely relevant to the searches your customers make. There is more on that in how I work and across the articles.

Answers

Common questions

Is this really free, and what’s the catch?

It is free and there is no catch beyond the obvious one: I built it hoping that if it finds problems you can't fix yourself, you might ask me to fix them. You get the full report on screen without entering an email address, and nothing is stored or added to a mailing list.

What does it actually check?

Roughly 25 things visible from a single page fetch: HTTPS and whether http redirects to it, response time and HTML weight, noindex tags and X-Robots-Tag headers, canonical URL, title and meta description length, H1 count and heading order, mobile viewport, page language, Open Graph tags, JSON-LD schema validity, image alt text and dimensions, base64-embedded images, robots.txt and sitemap.xml, security headers, and word count.

What does it not check?

It is a single-page check, not a crawler. It looks at the one URL you give it. It does not measure Core Web Vitals from real users, render JavaScript, check every page on your site, evaluate backlinks, assess your content quality, or tell you what keywords to target. Anything claiming to do all of that instantly is guessing.

Can I audit a competitor’s site?

Yes. Everything it reads is public information that any browser can see. It is genuinely useful for working out why a competitor outranks you, though the answer is more often reviews, content depth and links than anything this tool can measure.

The score seems harsh. How is it calculated?

It starts at 100 and deducts by severity: 22 points per critical issue, 11 per high, 5 per medium, 2 per low. It is a rough triage indicator, not an industry standard, treat the individual findings as the real output and the number as a rough sense of urgency.

It says my site can’t be reached, but it works in my browser

Most often one of three things: the site blocks automated requests, it took more than 12 seconds to respond, or it sits behind a firewall or bot protection that rejects non-browser traffic. That last one is not necessarily a problem, though it is worth knowing your site does it. Send me the address and I will check manually.
