Managed Means I Do the Work
Most cheap hosting is unmanaged: you get server space and everything else is your problem. When the SSL expires, the site breaks. When a plugin update conflicts, the site breaks. When traffic spikes, the site slows down. You find out from a customer.
Managed hosting means those are my problem. I patch, monitor, renew, back up and fix, and because I also build websites and handle IT support, I can actually diagnose whether a problem is the server, the site code, the DNS or your office internet. Why does hosting in South Africa matter?
Physical distance costs milliseconds on every single request. A site hosted in South Africa typically responds noticeably faster to South African visitors than one hosted in the US or Europe, and page speed is both a confirmed Google ranking factor and a major driver of whether mobile visitors stay. If your customers are local, host locally.
What's included in the hosting?
Local server space, free SSL certificate with automatic renewal, daily off-server backups, uptime monitoring, PHP and software updates where applicable, email accounts on your domain, DNS management, and support from me directly. No paid add-ons for basics like SSL that should never have been optional.
What uptime can I expect?
A 99.9% uptime target, which allows for roughly 45 minutes a month of unplanned downtime. Realistically most of my hosted sites go months without an unscheduled outage. What I won't do is promise 100%. Anyone who does either doesn't understand infrastructure or is hoping you won't check.
Can you move my existing site over?
Yes, and migration is included at no charge for new hosting clients. I copy the site, test it fully on the new server before touching anything public, then switch DNS at a quiet time so visitors don't see an outage. Email migrations are handled the same careful way, mail is where botched migrations do real damage.
Do you handle backups, or is that on me?
I handle them. Daily backups stored off-server, and, more importantly, I've actually restored from them. A backup you've never tested is a hope, not a safeguard. If you need a copy of your site from three weeks ago, ask and you'll get it.
What if I want to leave?
You get a full copy of your site and database, and I'll help point your domain wherever you want it. Your domain stays in your name throughout, so you're never in a position where leaving means losing your web address. Hosting relationships shouldn't need an escape plan, but you should always have one.
