Website Development in Pretoria That Earns Its Keep

A website should bring you enquiries, not just exist. I've built over 100 websites for South African businesses since 2020 and currently host more than 40 of them, fast, mobile-first, search-friendly sites that load quickly on local connections and turn visitors into phone calls.

What's Included

Every Site Ships With This

Mobile-First Build

Most South African traffic is mobile, often on data. Layouts are designed for a phone first and scaled up, not a desktop design squeezed down.

Genuinely Fast

Optimised images, minimal scripts and sensible caching. Slow sites lose visitors and rank worse; speed is treated as a feature, not an afterthought.

SEO Foundation

Unique titles and meta descriptions per page, clean H1 to H3 hierarchy, schema markup, sitemap, robots.txt and Search Console setup on launch.

SSL & Security

HTTPS from day one, security headers, hardened forms and a build approach that doesn't depend on twelve third-party plugins staying patched.

Analytics Wired In

Google Analytics 4 configured so you can see where enquiries actually come from, and stop paying for the channels that don't work.

Copy That Converts

Clear headlines, real proof, obvious calls to action and a contact form that arrives in your inbox. Design that looks good but says nothing is wasted money.

Process

How a Build Runs

Scope and quote

A short conversation about who your customers are, what you want the site to do, and what's failing about the current one. You get a fixed written quote with a clear page list and timeline. Nothing starts until you're happy with the number.

Structure before design

We agree the page structure and what each page is for, because that decides your URL structure, your keyword targeting and your internal links. Getting this right first is why the sites I build rank; getting it wrong is why redesigns quietly kill traffic.

Design and build

You see the design of the key pages before development starts, so changes happen while they're cheap. Then the site gets built, with checkpoints you can review live rather than a four-week silence.

Launch and handover

Speed and mobile testing, SSL, sitemap submitted to Google Search Console, analytics verified, forms tested end to end. You get the credentials, a short walkthrough of how to edit content, and the site is yours.

100%SA Built

Since going full-time in 2020 I've built websites for professional practices, trades, retailers, consultancies and startups, and critically, I still host and maintain more than 40 of them. That ongoing relationship is the useful part: I see which builds keep working years later and which decisions cause problems down the line.

It also means I don't hand over a site and vanish. The same person who built it is the person who fixes it, updates it, and keeps the rest of your IT running.

Answers

Common questions

What does a website cost in Pretoria?

It depends entirely on scope, and anyone quoting a firm price before understanding your business is guessing. A clean, well-built brochure site of 5 to 8 pages with SEO groundwork sits at the lower end; a site with bookings, member logins, e-commerce or a custom back-end costs meaningfully more. I quote a fixed price per project after a short scoping conversation, so you know the number before anything starts, no hourly creep.

How long does it take to build?

A standard business website typically takes 2 to 4 weeks from approved design to live, assuming content and images come back reasonably promptly. Larger builds with custom functionality run 6 to 12 weeks. The single biggest cause of delay is waiting on copy and photos from the client, so I flag exactly what I need upfront.

Will my site be found on Google?

Built-in from the start, not bolted on afterwards. Every site I build ships with proper title tags and meta descriptions, a clean heading structure, schema markup, a sitemap, fast load times and mobile-first layout. The technical foundation Google needs. Ranking for competitive terms also needs ongoing content and local SEO work, which I'm happy to advise on or handle separately.

Do you use WordPress or build from scratch?

Whichever genuinely fits. If you need to edit content daily, a CMS makes sense. If you need speed, security and low maintenance and the content rarely changes, a hand-built static site is dramatically faster and cannot be hacked through a plugin, which is how most South African small-business sites actually get compromised. I'll recommend based on your situation, not on what's easiest for me.

Can you redesign my existing website?

Yes, and often that's the better spend. If your site already ranks and gets traffic, a careful redesign preserves that equity while fixing the speed, mobile experience and conversion problems. Throwing away a site that ranks and starting fresh can cost you months of visibility. I'd rather migrate it properly.

What happens after the site goes live?

You own it outright, the code, the domain and the content. I offer South African hosting with SSL, backups and updates if you want it handled, or I'll hand everything over to your provider. No hostage situations, no locked-in proprietary platform you can't leave.

Do you build online stores?

Yes, product catalogues, cart, South African payment gateways (PayFast, Yoco, Ozow, PayPal), delivery rules and stock handling. For anything more involved than selling products, such as customer portals or booking systems, see web app development.
